The Netherlands is one of the most beautiful countries in Europe. Millions of tourists go to the Netherlands every year to see the country and all its attractions. It may be a small country but it is known for many things such as cheese, clogs, windmills, tulips, coffee shops, bicycles and many more. As an Au Pair in the Netherlands, you will get to experience the rich and diversified culture that this beautiful country has to offer.
- The Application Process
- When you are ready to take the next step and sign up for the program, request the
application forms from us to start working on your application. - When you are done filling out all the application forms and have the rest of your
profile ready, submit your profile to us via email. Your Registration/Admin fee of 34
Euro will be due as soon as you submit your profile. - We will then work our magic and process your application, then send it off to the
Netherlands. - Once your profile is in the Netherlands, it will be presented to well-screened host
families who will make contact with the agency to arrange an interview with you. - When you match with your host family, you will pay a flight contribution fee. We will then start assisting and guiding you with your visa process, which can take anything from 4 to 8 weeks. Your flight will then get booked and you will start
packing for your new adventure!

As an Au Pair in the Netherlands, you will be living with a host family and be like a big
sister to the children. You will receive a monthly stipend in exchange for providing
childcare services to the host family for up to 30 hours per week. You also get to learn
Dutch as your host family will contribute towards a Dutch language course. You will
have at least one full weekend off per month and will be entitled to 2 weeks off during
your program year. You will have time to travel and explore all the amazing tourist sites
that the Netherlands has to offer!
- Taking the children to school and other activities
- Helping the children with homework
- Preparing meals for the children
- Helping the children to get ready for the day
- Assist with household chores like preparing dinner, doing laundry, ironing, vacuuming,
making beds, keeping the kitchen clean, loading and unloading the dishwasher etc. - All childcare related duties like doing the children’s laundry, keeping the children’s
rooms and play areas tidy etc. - Assist with caring for animals
- Assistance with your application
The host family pays your visa - The host family contributes towards your flight(N/A in case of self-match)
- Basic Medical Insurance
- Support from Explore Abroad as well as our Dutch partner through the course of the
year - Your pocket money will be 340 Euro per month
- A contribution of 320 Euro towards a Dutch language course
- Two weeks off during your program year (You will still receive payment for your 2 off
weeks) - A furnished bedroom and meals with the family for your program year
With your Au Pair visa you will be able to visit other countries in the Schengen area
- The requirements
- Be between 18 to 25 years old
- Having a driver’s license is not a requirement
- You must be able to ride a bicycle
- Childcare experience (Have at least 2 childcare references with non-related children)
- Grade 12 High School Diploma or equivalent
- Be single with no dependents
- Be in good physical and mental health
- Be a non-smoker
- Have a clear criminal record
- Be a South African citizen
- Be willing to commit for a one year program
